1. Bongani F
Bongani F, the son of legendary singer Brenda F, once felt like it was the end of the world and was about to end his god-given life. He was going through a lot and felt like sleeping and never waking up again.
This happened just after his mother Brenda F passed away in the hospital, and everyone alleged that she died from a drug overdose. It was difficult for him, and he began to go through depression.
According to him in a podcast with Soli Philander, Bongani said he attempted to end it three times but failed. He would have been dead, but he’s still alive and strong. “My mind wasn’t in a good place, and my heart wasn’t in a good place. I tried to end it not once, I failed twice, and I failed three times,” Bongani said.
2. Fifi Mingos
Due to peer pressure and expectations from classmates, the son of Ringo F Mingos once felt like dying was preferable to living. His peers and teachers expected him to do exceptionally well in his studies and in everything because his father was famous.
When he became an adult, he still wasn’t happy with his jobs and salary, so he ended up on the verge of depression. He felt it’s better to sleep and never wake up again.
3. Dineo Ranaka
Actress Dineo Ranaka once felt like the world would be better without her. She wanted to end her only gift of life, but the attempts failed as well. This happened in 2023 before she posted on her Instagram stating that she was trying so hard to fight those negative thoughts.
She added that her attempts to fight the thoughts of ending her own gift of life were not enough, but she eventually got support from friends and overcame them. She’s still alive until today.
4. Proverb
Rapper and presenter Proverb is one of those celebrities who wanted to end it like the others. These thoughts of sleeping forever came after he had divorced his wife. The Idols presenter was going through serious depression from the split and divorce with his wife back in 2015.
Then he opened up about this five years later in 2020 to publishers in his memoir titled “The Book of Proverbs.” He explained that he bought strong painkillers and wine, and when he reached home, he locked himself and all access points to begin the process of self-termination.
After swallowing the pills, he passed out but was later found by his brother and rushed to the hospital. He later apologized to his family and said he wasn’t himself when he tried to destroy himself.
5. Fezile Swana
Another television actor who attempted this is Fezile Swana, best known for “Generations.” The actress attempted to take away a god-given life by taking a large number of pills and other dangerous fluids.
The reason behind that was attached to a scandal that had happened at SABC. According to Bona Magazine’s website, she also reviewed all the details in an interview on King David Busiswa’s podcast.
6. Busiswa
Singer and poet Busiswa once felt purposeless in her life and thought ending it all was a solution. This happened after being kicked out of her home while she was still in school. These thoughts of sleeping forever, like the other celebrities, came to her many times, as she said on “Downtime with Clement Mzimkhulu.”
7. Clement Mzimkhulu
Some Clement Mzimkhulu once felt purposeless after losing his parents. He felt that ending it all was the best decision since his parents were no more. What made things worse was that he was still in school and didn’t have anyone to support him.
8. Mini Jempang
Actress Mini Jempang is among those who almost lost their lives to themselves. Fans knew about this after she posted a cryptic post on Twitter, now called X, following the self-termination death of Rick Rick.
Her post read, “I won’t tell a word of a lie, I am broken. Today’s news could have easily been me.” Fans interpreted this message as saying she would have committed the same as Rick Rick.
9. Black Coffee
Another celebrity who would have committed the deed of self-destruction is DJ Black Coffee. He also wrote a cryptic tweet after Rick Rick’s death. His tweet suggested that he could die if anyone is willing.
His post read, “If at this point taking my own gifted of God which is life will make you happy, go ahead take it.” Those who read it were also not sure who and what he referred to, but it sounded like he wanted to leave this earth.
10. Alicia Keys
Singer and producer Alicia Keys opened up on a radio interview that she once thought of ending her gift of life. These reports came out in 2023, and she opened up about everything. She said she was broken, and acting strong wasn’t going to help.
“Yes, I’m a broken human being, and I’ve been for a long time,” she said. But fortunately, the singer is still pushing and alive.
11. Vinolia Mashe
In 2020, Vinolia Mashe was found lifeless in a bed in Mzimhlophe. The cause of death was natural causes, but something had been bothering Vinolia before she died. She had been in torment of those thoughts of ending the precious gift of her own life. At least she overcame those thoughts, and she eventually died naturally.
12. TNS
DJ and music artist TNS also went through difficult times that made him think that ending it was the best. He wasn’t clear about it, but he posted a cryptic message on Facebook which suggested that he wanted to end his own gifted life.
The message clearly said that before he dies of himself, he will release a song that says it’s hard. When asked by CH Life, he said that was not the first time those thoughts came to him, but he overcame through constant prayers. He wrote the cryptic message to remind his friends that they must check on each other.
