Tshwane-based musician and former stripper Mathapelo Kanyane, popularly known as Black Cat Girl, is mourning the tragic loss of her mum, Gertrude Mohlala, aged 51.
The distressing news was confirmed by multi-award-winning musician Goodwill “Dr Malinga” Malinga, a close friend and collaborator of Black Cat Girl.
“We can’t talk right now. Black Cat’s mother just passed away. We haven’t released an official statement yet; she’s still working on it,” Dr Malinga said.
Dr Malinga also took to his Facebook page to share his sorrow.
“May her soul rest in peace, Mam Gertrude, Black Cat Girl’s mother. We have truly lost a pillar of strength,” he wrote, in tribute to the late Gertrude’s memory,” he said.
Black Cat Girl (32) shared her pain with her followers by posting an emotional video on social media.
In the video, she is seen crying and shielding her face, clearly overwhelmed by grief. Fans and friends have flooded the comments section of her post with messages of love and comfort during this tough time.
“Yhooo, this woman was your pillar. She loved you so much. No one ever truly heals from losing a mum; it’s painful. I know the pain,” said Ponani Makhubele.
“Eish, sorry, dear. I know that feeling. My mom passed away on 13 December, and we buried her on her birthday, 20 December.
“Even today, I can’t enjoy December—it’s so painful for me. Black Cat, I don’t know what to say, but only God knows,” Another fan, Mpho Mmaretso said.
“I’m very sorry for your loss. May her precious soul rest in perfect peace. She may be gone, but she will always be in our hearts. Till we meet again,” Lucky Gadner added.
As Black Cat Girl works on an official statement, her fans, friends, and fellow musicians continue to rally around her with love and support.
