Siwelele FC boss brags about being Minister Gaytonโ€™s son

Siwelele FC boss Calvin Le John โ€“ whose father is Gayton McKenzie โ€“ introduced himself to supporters as the โ€˜son of the Minister of Sportโ€™.

Despite shying away from his fatherโ€™s last name, Calvin Le John introduced himself as the son of Minister of Sport, Art and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, after addressing supporters of his newly acquired football club, Siwelele.

The businessman- the firstborn of the former convict โ€“ recently purchased the club, previously Supersport United, for R50 million in a closed business deal.

CALVIN LE JOHN BRAGS ABOUT FAMOUS FATHER

In his first speech, Siwelele FCโ€™s new boss introduced himself to the clubโ€™s supporters.

โ€œI am Calvin Le John, the firstborn of the Minister of Sport, Gayton McKenzieโ€, he told a crowd of football fans at their general meeting last week.

Calvin touched on his relationship with Gayton, and their love of the Bloemfontein Celtic club โ€“ nicknamed Siwelele โ€“ which later became Royal AM.

โ€œOn the day I was born, my father was sentenced to 17 years [for armed robbery]. From the day I was born until the age of 10, the only connection we had was through the visitorsโ€™ section at Grootvlei [prison].

Becoming emotional, he added: โ€œIn my family, one of the only things that brought us happiness was Siweleleโ€.

โ€˜HE OWNS 100% OF THE COMPANYโ€™

Since Calvin Le John acquired Siwelele FC, many South Africans have accused Gayton McKenzie of having a hand in the closed business deal. Others claim he would use his position as Minister of Sport to further the clubโ€™s interests.

Responding to the rumours, Gayton said in a Facebook Live: โ€œPeople act like we took money from under our mattress and we just went to go buy a club.

โ€œHe bought it, Iโ€™m not part of the companyโ€ฆ.Thereโ€™s no consortium, he owns 100% of the company aloneโ€.

Gayton added,ย โ€œIโ€™m very proud of him.ย He doesnโ€™t want to trade on McKenzieโ€™s name; that shows you he is different.โ€
