Peggy Ovire, known for her roles in Nollywood and as the wife of celebrated actor Frederick Leonard, recently caught a man accused of repeatedly stealing from her and her neighbors.

According to Peggy, the suspect, identified as Chinoso, was a street worker she had initially introduced to her neighbors to help them with odd jobs around their estate.

Peggy’s act of kindness turned sour when Chinoso allegedly began exploiting the trust he had gained.

He reportedly claimed he was working for Peggy to gain access to the estate, and soon after, a string of thefts began to occur.

Items stolen included gas cylinders, generator parts, and even personal belongings like clothing.

The thief’s repeated offenses left the neighborhood on edge.

The situation escalated when, for the third time, Chinoso attempted to steal another gas cylinder while someone was cooking.

The victim noticed the gas had suddenly stopped, went outside, and discovered the cylinder was missing.

Security was alerted, and a chase ensued.

Chinoso was apprehended before he could escape with the stolen property.

Peggy, who was at the gym at the time, was called to the scene.

She confronted the suspect in front of neighbors and security personnel, expressing her outrage and disappointment.

She recounted how she had once given Chinoso money out of kindness and had vouched for him as a worker, only for him to betray her trust.

Taking to social media, Peggy issued a stern warning to fellow filmmakers and producers, urging them never to employ Chinoso.

She detailed her experience, explaining that she had met him during a film production, where he claimed to be a filmmaker and technician.

After the production ended, he returned to the estate, waited for neighbors to leave for work, and began stealing valuable items.

Peggy’s post read:
“They are filmmakers, this post is for you all to never employ this guy called Chinoso.

I met him on a production, gave him a job, and even dashed him money.

After the job, he came back and stole from my neighbors—generator parts, gas cylinders, and more.

He has come back three times, and today he was finally caught. I will make sure he is sent to jail.”

The video of Peggy confronting the thief quickly went viral, drawing thousands of reactions.

Some viewers applauded her bravery and willingness to stand up for her community, arguing that public exposure was necessary to warn others and prevent further crimes.

They pointed out that repeated thefts had put the entire neighborhood at risk and that the man’s actions were a gross betrayal of trust.

One supporter commented, “Someone is cooking and you went and removed the cylinder—this is criminal! If he wasn’t caught, he would have come back again. She did the right thing by exposing him.”

Others, however, criticized Peggy for filming and posting the confrontation online.

They argued that public shaming could have long-term consequences for the accused, who, despite his actions, still has rights under the law.

Some felt that the matter should have been left to law enforcement, warning that social media exposure could be seen as prejudicial or even dangerous.

“Sad, but you shouldn’t have filmed him and posted him here.

You guys should take him to the police station and allow the law to take its course,” one viewer wrote.

Another added, “He’s accused, not convicted. He still has rights, and this kind of public shaming could violate them. Take him to court and let justice be served.”

The incident has reignited debate in Nigeria about the ethics and effectiveness of public shaming, especially in cases where the accused has not yet been convicted by a court of law.

Some argue that in a country where the justice system can be slow or unreliable, public exposure is the only way to deter criminals and protect communities.

Others worry that such actions can lead to mob justice or unjust treatment of suspects.

Peggy’s decision to share the video was met with both support and backlash.

While many saw her as a hero for standing up against crime, others cautioned against the dangers of taking justice into one’s own hands or using social media as a court of public opinion.

Frederick Leonard, though not directly involved in the confrontation, was reportedly shocked and disappointed by the betrayal of trust.

As a respected figure in Nollywood, the incident has also raised questions about the safety and vulnerability of high-profile individuals and their families.

For Peggy, the experience has been a sobering reminder of the risks involved in helping strangers.

She expressed regret that her willingness to help someone in need was repaid with deceit and theft.

“This is why so many people can’t help the poor,” she lamented.

“You can’t even tell from their looks who is trustworthy.”

As the suspect awaits legal proceedings, the case serves as a cautionary tale for communities across Nigeria.

It highlights the importance of vigilance, the potential consequences of misplaced trust, and the ongoing debate over how best to handle crime and justice in the digital age.

Peggy Ovire’s actions have sparked important conversations about responsibility, compassion, and the rule of law.

Whether or not public shaming is the answer, one thing is certain: the incident has left a lasting impact on all involved and serves as a stark warning to those who would exploit the kindness of others.
