HUGE BLOW: Season over for key Kaizer Chiefs star.
Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana have received a massive blow after defender Rushwin Dortley was ruled out for the rest of the season.
Dortley has not been involved in Chiefs’ last two games and it has now been revealed that he will still play no further part this season as he is set to undergo knee surgery.
According to GOAL, the defender’s injury requires surgery which he is due for and he will embark on rehabilitation with his next available date being pre-season ahead of next season.
It is a blow to coach Nasreddine Nabi, who has played Dortley in all games that he has been available for, and it means Given Msimango will have a big role to play now after being slotted in the last two games.
Who is available for Chiefs in defence?
Dortley will now also not be available for Bafana Bafana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin this month with Chiefs set to play the remaining 10 league games without him as well as the Nedbank Cup semi-final.
The defender has played 21 games across all competitions for Chiefs this season and was also a vital member of Hugo Broos’ team as he featured in all six matches during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
In his absence, Nabi will now have to call on Inacio Miguel, Edmilson Dove, Zitha Kwinika and Aden McCarthy as they are his centre-back options.
Nabi will hope that none of the available defenders suffers an injury as he is entering a crucial stage of the season with a home match against Cape Town City set to take place on Wednesday.
