Veteran actress Abigail Kubeka reflected on his contributions and lamented the lack of recognition he received during his lifetime.

β€œI didn’t know he was this young. He was my son’s age, yet he was my boss and took care of us. I am devastated and heartbroken. What hurts me the most is that Doc was never celebrated. He did so much for us.”

Doc Shebeleza’s daughters also shared emotional tributes.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Khosi Gwala described her father as a hero and a loving presence.

β€œHe was always there for us through thick and thin. I am grateful I got to travel with him across South Africa. My father was very funny and a true hero. His loss is not only ours but the nation’s as well,” she said.

Seagatso Bogopane, one of Doc Shebeleza’s daughters, shared heartfelt memories of their close bond.

β€œHe used to say, β€œI am your mom, dad, granny, and everything.” We rose and fell together. He taught us the importance of prayer, love, and togetherness. He was the glue of our family,” she said.

Doc Shebeleza’s sister, Sandra Khonou, said his brother was always there when they needed him.

β€œHe was always there. He always had advice. He had a special gift of bringing our family together. He touched lives in all corners of the country. I can stand here the whole day and talk about him. He made sure he brought us together,” said Sandra.

Kgosana Bogopane, representing the royal family, shared cherished memories of Doc Shebeleza’s visits.

β€œHe was a father. He was able to make everyone around feel comfortable. Despite his flaws, he always made sure he would show up for us as a family. His heart was always in the right place. He always taught us to love unconditionally. He worked hard to provide for his family.”

The beloved artist will be laid to rest on Saturday, 18 January, with a service at 9 am at the Old Apostolic Church.

He will find his final resting place at West Park Cemetery, Heroes Acres.
