Ex-Pirates star’s heartfelt goodbye to Riveiro!

FORMER Orlando Pirates star Steve “Chippa” Lekoelea has expressed support for outgoing coach José Riveiro.
He wished him success as he begins a new chapter in his career.
Taking to social media, the 46-year-old ex-soccer star from Sebokeng, Vereeniging, shared a heartfelt message for the Spanish tactician, who is leaving the Soweto giants after his last game against Golden Arrows.
“I wanna wish the coach of Orlando Pirates Riveiro good luck for the new job. We know about Ma Buccaneer this was his last game for him. The guys have been playing good football under him, so I wish him good luck.
“So, we wish we can get a new coach like him so that the guys can play good football and continue playing good football. Ma Buccaneer, we have lost the coach, but I trust you will do the job, thank you,” said Chippa.

Lekoelea is a true Buccaneers legend who joined Orlando Pirates as a 17-year-old from Moroka Swallows.
Known for his dazzling footwork, blistering pace, and flair on the field, Chippa, as he was known in his soccer days, became a fan favourite during his time at the club between 1995 and 2005.
While his message was emotional (and a few tongue-twisting phrases), it’s clear Lekoelea holds Riveiro in high regard.
Riveiro, who arrived at the Sea Robbers in 2022, led the team to back-to-back MTN8 titles and brought a new tactical flair to the Pirates’ playing style.
Under his guidance, Bucs fans saw more structured and entertaining football.
