Confirmed: Kaizer Chiefs target still belongs to Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs are only tantalisingly close to signing Etiosa Ighodaro. The challenge is the 24-year-old is still tied to Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Will Etiosa Ighodaro eventually wear the Kaizer Chiefs jersey? Amakhosi remain close to signing the 24-year-old striker after six goals in 24 games on loan at AmaZulu FC last term.

Amakhosi prioritised the forward after he completed his loan spell at AmaZulu, and believed they were on the verge of finalising a deal.

Since joining Sundowns from Benin City College in 2021, the Kaizer Chiefs target has scored 25 goals in various loan spells at AmaTuks, Chippa United, SuperSport United and Usuthu.

University of Pretoria: Zero goals in four matches
Chippa United: 11 goals in 27 matches
SuperSport United: Eight goals in 34 matches
AmaZulu: Six goals in 27 matches.

Speaking at the league’s launch event, Nabi addressed the situation: β€œIghodaro is a good player, but he belongs to another team, and there are administrative issues involved. If he joins us, great. If not, there are other strikers we’re considering,” said the Tunisian coach.

He added: β€œThe playerβ€”or another striker on our listβ€”will be welcomed. But we must wait for the administrative side of things to be sorted before anything is finalised,” Nabi concluded.

In the meantime, Kaizer Chiefs kick off the season away to Stellenbosch FC at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday at 17:30.
