Chidimma Adetshina’s mom arrested in Cape Town

The mother of Miss Universe runner-up Chidimma Adetshina has been arrested in Cape Town.

Spokesperson for the Department of Home Affairs Siya Qoza says Anabela Rungo was detained at a property in Cape Town on Saturday with her underage child.

Rungo and Adetshina were stripped of their South African citizenship last year when it came to light during the Miss SA pageant that documents were fraudulently obtained.

Although Adetshina was born in South Africa, she has since moved back to her father’s home country, Nigeria.

Qoza says Mrs Rungo, who has a Mozambican passport, completely disregards the legal consequences of her conduct.

He says she was processed by Home Affairs and handed over to police as she is also the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Hawks.

The Department of Social Services and the police child protection unit were also called to protect the minor child’s interests.

Adetshina, who had never been to Nigeria before, competed in the country’s beauty pageant, which she won, giving her access to the Miss Universe pageant, where she was crowned the first runner-up.
