Justice for Matshidiso Felicia Makobe

On March 14, 2025, tragedy struck in Pretoria when Matshidiso Felicia Makobe was allegedly murdєred by her husband in their apartment. Her lifeless body was reportedly discovered in her bedroom, hidden beneath blankets. In a shocking turn of events, her husband allegedly attempted to take his own life but was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. As of now, no arrests have been made, leaving friends, family, and the community in anguish and demanding justice.

The Ongoing Crisis of Gender-Based Violence

Matshidiso’s heartbreaking death is yet another reminder of the growing crisis of gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide in our country. Too many women are losing their lives at the hands of those who should love and protect them. With each new case, we are left asking: How many more must die before urgent action is taken?

GBV is not just an issue for individuals—it is a national crisis that affects families, communities, and the entire country. The alarming rate of violence against women has reached epidemic proportions, yet decisive measures remain lacking. The justice system must be swift and uncompromising in holding perpetrators accountable, ensuring that victims do not suffer in silence.

We refuse to let Matshidiso’s death become just another statistic. It is time for us to take a stand against GBV and femicide. We call on all South Africans to come together and demand that our government declare gender-based violence and femicide a National Disaster.
