Mngqithi revealed that she stepped away for two years to focus on raising her daughter. She now plans to return to acting, with someone she trusts caring for her child.
She also shared how becoming a mother has transformed her perspective on acting and shaped her career decisions.
“I want to be discerning in what I take on, especially because I have someone looking up to me.
“I won’t take on aggressive roles unless they serve a purpose—whether to drive a story or make an impact. I believe South Africa needs more educational productions,” the actress told IOL.
During an interview with ZiMoja, she also confirmed her divorce. “I can’t paint all the guys with the same brush. I would definitely get married again,” she said.

Mngqithi Dismisses Conflict Rumours
Asavela Mngqithi dismissed speculation about tensions with her ex-husband as she confirms divorce.
“We have a beautiful relationship. He is a good father to his children, and nothing has changed besides that we are no longer together. We are both there for our kid,” she added.

Making Headlines with Cryptic Posts
This marks her first public discussion about the divorce, which made headlines in September last year.
She set social media abuzz after sharing photos dressed in black outside the KwaZulu-Natal High Court.
Her caption read, “Woof, woof. It has been lovely enkosi” (thank you). She also posted a screenshot of a conversation that read: “Asime dali (let’s stop darling). Thanks, nge (for) experience.”
In August last year, X user @Mlu__N7 claimed Vuyisa Mqokiyana had allegedly cheated, leading Mngqithi to file for divorce.
She did not respond at the time, leaving many speculating.
Her Marriage Journey
In 2022, Asavela Mngqithi confirmed her marriage, sharing online: “I officially became Mrs Mqokiyana. Emzini bathe ndingu kwande umdeni, uthando ne Mpilo.”
