Maskandi star Mthandeni ‘s family claims he’s bigger than Chris Brown

When fans started comparing maskandi star Mthandeni Manqele to American singer Chris Brown on social media this week, Manqele’s family took it as a compliment.

The debate started after Brown’s spectacular show at FNB Stadium where he performed while flying on wires. Some fans mocked Manqele, saying he could never do that because he would get sick.

But Manqele’s family spokesman Lindokuhle Xulu says being compared to Brown shows Manqele has outgrown local competition.

“No one else in the music industry got compared to Chris Brown – only Manqele. This shows our brother has reached the top in South African music. When fans wanted to talk about Chris Brown’s performance, they thought of Manqele. This is amazing,” said Xulu.

He even suggested Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie should get both stars to perform together “because music fans want them both on the same stage”.

Xulu couldn’t resist taking a dig at Brown: “Chris Brown is a small boy because he has never hosted 50,000 fans at his home like Manqele did last year December at his home in kwaHlabisa.”

Manqele’s star has been rising internationally. His song “Paris” made it onto the US music charts and got him a deal with a Spanish clothing store.

“In maskandi music, those who still want to compete with Manqele must just forget it because he is now on Chris Brown’s level,” said Xulu.
