There's a reason I'm here' — Zola 7 reflects on being in a coma as he makes a comeback

In an interview promoting his uMdlwembe documentary on Metro FM, Zola reflected on the emotional journey he’s been through since his health took a drastic turn. Known for his resilience and determination, he has faced both personal and public challenges with strength, and his story continues to inspire his fans.

In early March, Zola was hospitalized and slipped into a coma, a state that brought both physical and spiritual revelations. Recalling his experiences, he spoke openly about his near-death moment, sharing how he felt detached from physical pain. “You feel no pain,” he explained, adding that even physical sensations had faded.

During this time, Zola had what he described as a profound experience of speaking with his late grandmother, who passed away in 1993. In their exchange, she urged him to return to the living world, a message that inspired him to fight for his recovery.

“So I woke up, hearing the nurses and smelling I was in hospital. Now I’m back this side, so there’s a reason I’m here,” he expressed, adding a sense of purpose to his survival.

Zola’s health struggles have been a cause for concern for his fans and followers. In March 2022, South African music executive Nota Baloyi took to Twitter, raising alarms about Zola’s wellbeing. Nota claimed that Zola was “not doing well nor looking good” and implied that those close to the star had neglected him.

This statement stirred the public and prompted a wave of concern on social media, with fans eager to understand the reality of Zola’s health status.

In response to the growing concerns, Zola’s wife, Siki Kunene, spoke to TshisaLIVE to address the rumors and clarify the misinformation that had been circulating. She refuted Nota’s claims as “utter rubbish,” explaining that Zola was indeed battling a chronic health condition but was stable and receiving appropriate care.

Kunene clarified that Zola suffers from epilepsy, a neurological disorder that requires him to take daily medication. Her reassurances helped to quell some of the worry among fans, but the public’s interest and support remained strong.
