Kaizer Chiefs Stuck in Limbo?

Kaizer Chiefs struggle for consistency as another frustrating draw raises doubts about their progress under Nasreddine Nabi.

It's lack of professionalism" - Nabi slams Chiefs stars | Kickoff

Kaizer Chiefs fans have been left with more questions than answers as their team continues to struggle for consistency under Nasreddine Nabi.

Just days after suffering a heartbreaking last-minute defeat to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby, Chiefs were desperate to bounce back against AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership.

Instead, they walked away with only a point in a thrilling 2-2 draw—another frustrating result in a season that has yet to offer real clarity on their progress.

The match against AmaZulu had everything—high intensity, near misses, and even the rare spectacle of two own goals in a single game. Chiefs came out firing, nearly scoring twice in the opening minute, setting the tone for a chaotic encounter.

Both teams struck the woodwork, and the crowd was treated to a back-and-forth battle that saw momentum shift constantly.

Yet, despite their aggressive approach and 19 total shots on goal compared to AmaZulu’s 12, Chiefs failed to secure all three points.

It was a strange night at FNB Stadium, where Chiefs technically dominated but still couldn’t convert their control into a victory.

Their two goals came courtesy of AmaZulu defenders Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Richard Ofori, who both turned the ball into their own net.

With no Chiefs player getting on the scoresheet, the draw felt even more frustrating for fans who are desperate to see their team step up and deliver meaningful results.

This latest disappointment means that Chiefs remain in fifth place on the table—a definite improvement from last season’s dismal 10th-place finish, but still far from the standards expected of a club with such a rich history.

More worryingly, they are now eight points behind Orlando Pirates in second place, despite having played four more matches than their bitter rivals.

The gap at the top continues to widen, making it clear that any hopes of competing for the title are fading fast.

What’s even more concerning is the uncertainty surrounding Chiefs’ true level this season. Have they genuinely improved under Nabi, or are they simply treading water, unable to make real strides toward becoming a dominant force again?

The inconsistency in results suggests the latter, and frustration is beginning to build among the fanbase.

Chiefs have drawn four of their 16 games this season—a sign that they are struggling to kill off matches they should be winning.

While a third-place finish might still be within reach, it remains to be seen whether that would be considered a success for the club’s management. Chiefs have historically been a club that aims for the top, not just for a respectable position.

If they fail to secure a top-three spot, will there be major changes at Naturena? Will Nabi be given more time to build his vision, or will the club take a more drastic approach in their search for success?

As Chiefs continue to search for answers, the pressure is mounting. The fans demand more, the league table is unforgiving, and with each passing match, the sense of urgency only grows.

The coming weeks could define their season and perhaps even the future of Nasreddine Nabi at the club.
