If they have any hopes of dethroning the seemingly unstoppable Mamelodi Sundowns, perfection is the only option.

For seven consecutive seasons, Sundowns have reigned supreme, fending off every challenger with ruthless efficiency. They have turned the league into their personal playground, their consistency unmatched, their dominance unquestioned.

Many have tried to stop them—none have succeeded. Pirates, however, have come closer than most.

The Soweto giants have been knocking on the door in recent seasons, finishing second multiple times, but they’ve lacked the endurance to push the Brazilians all the way.
