U2 fans, get ready—2025 might just be the year your favorite band takes the world by storm again. The Edge, the iconic guitarist of the legendary rock group, has teased exciting updates about new music and potential future tours.

In a candid conversation on the Sodajerker on Songwriting podcast, he shared insights into the band’s creative process and what’s on the horizon for the “Vertigo” hitmakers.

The Edge revealed that U2 is currently in an exceptionally creative phase, with new material brewing. “There might be a new song happening very soon, which you’ll hear about,” he hinted, sparking anticipation among fans.

While he kept the details under wraps, the promise of fresh music is enough to set the stage for what could be another groundbreaking chapter in U2’s illustrious career.

This announcement follows their 2023 standalone single, Atomic City, which showcased the band’s ability to remain relevant and innovative decades into their career.

The Edge emphasized the importance of refining their creative process, explaining how he now ensures that any material presented to his bandmates—Bono, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.—is fully fleshed out before they begin working on it.

“I sort of tricked myself,” he admitted during the interview. “I was going: ‘Okay, this is for The Edge solo album, so … you can’t be, like, leaving these things half finished.’”

This approach, he noted, has been instrumental in avoiding wasted effort on ideas that lack potential. By delivering more polished drafts, the band has been able to focus on songs that truly resonate.

The guitarist’s disciplined approach has evidently paid off.

“We sort of know: ‘Yeah, that one really does have some potential here,’” he said, adding that while they might still tweak and transform tracks during the creative process, they’re avoiding the pitfall of investing time in ideas that ultimately wouldn’t work.

But music isn’t the only thing on U2’s agenda. The band, fresh off their 40-night U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency in Las Vegas, is itching to hit the road again.

The residency, which wrapped up in March, was a massive success, showcasing U2’s ability to innovate live performances with cutting-edge technology and unforgettable setlists.

However, The Edge acknowledged that the residency’s stationary nature left them longing for the connection that comes from touring.

“We’re hoping to get to do some shows,” he said. “’Cause, you know, we did the Vegas run, which was fantastic, but we didn’t get to see much of the world. And … we’re looking forward to hooking up with our fans where they live, as opposed to them having to come to us.”

For a band like U2, whose music has touched millions worldwide, touring is more than just performing—it’s about fostering a global sense of community.

The Edge’s comments suggest that the band is keen to bring their music directly to fans in different corners of the globe, reigniting the energy and connection that only a live U2 show can provide.

This renewed vigor and excitement come as no surprise. U2 has always been a band that thrives on evolution, consistently pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in music and live performance.

From their early days as post-punk trailblazers to their reinvention as stadium-filling rock icons, U2 has never been content to rest on their laurels.

Their recent projects, including the Songs of Surrender album and the accompanying book by Bono, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, reflect a band that remains introspective and driven, even after decades in the spotlight.

The Edge’s revelations about new music and potential tours suggest that U2 is not only looking back on their legacy but also forging ahead with fresh ideas and ambitions.

While the details of their new song remain under wraps, fans can rest assured that U2’s next chapter will be worth the wait.

Whether it’s through innovative new tracks, electrifying live performances, or both, the band seems poised to remind the world why they’ve remained one of the most enduring and beloved acts in music history.

As The Edge put it, “We’re in a great place creatively.” For U2 fans, that’s all the assurance needed to get excited for what’s to come.

Whether it’s a surprise single, a groundbreaking album, or a world tour, one thing is clear: U2 is ready to make 2025 unforgettable.
