Sello Sebotsane says sorry to ex-wife for years of abuse
Actor Sello Sebotsane has apologised to his ex-wife, actress Shoki Mmola, and their children, Oratile and Karabo, for years of abuse.
He posted his apology on TikTok on Tuesday, 10 February, after years of keeping quiet.
People watching his recent TikTok videos often remind him of how he abused Shoki.
“For the part I have played in hurting you, harming you, I am deeply sorry. I know words cannot mend what is broken. I am working on myself and looking forward to helping the younger generation combat violence because, with violence, we go nowhere,” said Sello.
He asked men and boys to speak about their feelings instead of using violence.
“Let’s learn to speak. Someone will understand your pain,” he said.
Sello admitted he was wrong, saying: “I am only human. Wrong is wrong. Let’s make things right and work towards a better world.”
Shoki has spoken openly about the abuse that started in 2003 when she worked on Muvhango.
She told how Sello once sat on her lap, choked her, and beat her until she bled. He then ran away.
The abuse left Shoki with lasting health problems.
“For the longest time, I couldn’t laugh without getting a headache. I was frail. I was underweight. My skin was grey,” she said.
Shoki’s decision to tell her story has shown how serious domestic violence is and why it needs to stop.
