Orlando Pirates Star Tso Vilakazi Says Coach Nabi Isn’t the Right Fit for Kaizer Chiefs

Orlando Pirates star Tso Vilakazi has publicly expressed his doubts over Nasreddine Nabi’s suitability as head coach of Kaizer Chiefs.

Vilakazi Slams Nabi’s Lack of Clear Game Plan

According to Soccer Laduma, Vilakazi didn’t hold back in assessing Nabi’s performance at Kaizer Chiefs.

He stated that the Tunisian tactician has failed to impose a clear playing identity and get the best out of his squad.

“Personally, I would not retain Nabi. One, as a coach, show us who you are with the type of football you want to play; it will tell us what type of person you are,” Vilakazi pointed out.

The retired midfielder criticised what he sees as tactical inconsistency under Nabi, pointing to an early attempt to build from the back which quickly faded.

“One or two games, he started as if he wanted to build from the back, but when you’re doing something you’re not used to, at some point you’ll be confused,” Vilakazi said.

He added that he’s still unsure what type of football Nabi is trying to implement.

“What is disappointing me about Nabi is I don’t know what type of football he really wants to play. I’d be lying.”

Praise for Duba Switch, But Little Else

Vilakazi acknowledged only one tactical move that impressed him—Nabi’s decision to redeploy Wandile Duba from the wing to a central striking role.

“The only switch I think he did and worked for Chiefs is when he moved (Wandile) Duba from wing to striker.”

Aside from that, Vilakazi sees little progress or player development worth celebrating under Nabi’s tenure.

“No Chiefs Player Has Risen to the Occasion”

One of Vilakazi’s strongest criticisms centred around the lack of standout individual performances under Nabi’s watch.

“I don’t see him bringing the best out of Chiefs players. For me, there’s no Chiefs player that has risen to the occasion.

It is a must that at the end of the season you have at least one player nominated—Player of the Season, Midfielder of the Season, or Defender of the Season. For me, a team like the Chiefs—it is a mustat at the end of the season you have at least one player nominated.”

While he gave Nabi credit for breaking the club’s decade-long trophy drought, Vilakazi believes it’s time to move on.

“I’d say, ‘Nabi, you saved us from ten years without a trophy, but thank you very much.”
