Actors Megan Good and Jonathan Majors have announced they are engaged.
After her divorce with U.S. film producer DeVron Franklin, Meagan dated Jonathan at the height of his court appearances for domestic violence charges.
In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Meagan states that she and Jonathan met at an event and there was instant chemistry between both of them. However, the actor was not ready for a relationship at that time.
She says they met once again four months after the event and that’s when they decided to kick it off. Meagan adds that Jonathan was reluctant to make their relationship public and tried to convince her that they should not be in a relationship.
“He actually tried to encourage me to not be with him and I was like, yeah, that’s not going to happen.”
The star of Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black film adds that she was also ready to deal with the critiques that come with the reveal of their relationship and that she still chooses to be in a relationship with Jonathan despite any backlash.
Now the question is, why would Meagan be expecting criticism for her relationship with Jonathan?
Well, it might be because Jonathan was found guilty of assault and harassment in December 2023 after he assaulted his ex-girlfriend and actress Grace Jabbari. He was sentenced to a 52-week mandatory in-person domestic violence prevention programme plus a separate $250 (R4 518) surcharge according to a CNN article.
Meagan addressed Jonathan’s conviction in the PEOPLE interview by stating that she is against abuse.
“I don’t condone domestic violence at all 1000 percent and for me I just have to leave it there.”
The ironic relationship of these two Hollywood actors has progressed to the direction of marriage. According to the CNN article, the pair announced their engagement at the same annual event where they met two years ago and, despite Meagan advocating against domestic abuse, it seems as if she has decided to stick by his side even after his conviction.
“The fact that she said, ‘I’m gonna run with you, I’m with it’. I feel great,” Jonathan audaciously told CNN.
