Farouk Khan Reveals the Players Kaizer Chiefs Must Sign ASAP.
As Kaizer Chiefs gear up for another season of rebuilding, prominent football analysts Farouk Khan and Peter du Toit have weighed in on the crucial squad reinforcements that could finally see Amakhosi close the gap on Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2025/26 campaign.
With Chiefs once again falling short in both the DStv Premiership and domestic cup competitions, fans and pundits alike are calling for a fresh approach — and Khan and Du Toit believe it starts with smart recruitment.
Farouk Khan, known for his talent-spotting eye and deep tactical insight, stressed the need for more dynamism and consistency in Chiefs’ full-back positions.
He named Fawaaz Basadien of Stellenbosch FC and Terrence Mashego from Mamelodi Sundowns as ideal signings.
“Basadien brings composure, precision crossing, and positional intelligence — exactly what Chiefs need on the left,” Khan noted.
“He’s a player who reads the game well and isn’t afraid to go forward.”
Peter du Toit echoed the sentiment but also focused on Terrence Mashego.
“Mashego’s pace and aggression down the flank would give Chiefs a modern, attack-minded full-back option. He’s already proven he can perform at a high level for Sundowns, and he still has room to grow.”
Du Toit emphasized that adding competition in the full-back areas is vital if Chiefs want to keep up with the attacking intensity of Orlando Pirates and the tactical discipline of Sundowns.
Perhaps the most talked-about name on the analysts’ list was Stanley Nwabali, the Nigerian goalkeeper who impressed in the 2023 AFCON and currently plays for Chippa United.
“Kaizer Chiefs need a commanding, confident keeper who can control the box and communicate with his defense,” said Khan.
“Nwabali fits that mold perfectly. His shot-stopping ability, aerial presence, and calmness under pressure make him an ideal upgrade.”
Peter du Toit added that Chiefs have struggled with consistency in the goalkeeper position for several seasons.
“You can’t build a title-winning team without a solid foundation at the back.Nwabali brings that aura and leadership Chiefs desperately need.”
While the suggested additions of Basadien, Mashego, and Nwabali would undoubtedly improve the squad, both analysts agree that Kaizer Chiefs must also define a clear tactical identity under the next head coach, whoever that may be.
Khan stressed: “It’s not just about big names — it’s about players who fit the system and are hungry to succeed.Chiefs need depth, cohesion, and players with a winning mentality.”
Du Toit concluded, “With the right mix of experience and youth, and smart signings like these, Kaizer Chiefs could finally mount a serious challenge to Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns next season.”
