With the end of the 2024/25 season fast approaching and another trophyless campaign looming, Kaizer Chiefs’ rumored new head coach Nasreddine Nabi has already started identifying key targets to rebuild and reshape the squad.

Stephane Aziz Ki – The Midfield Engine Chiefs Desperately Need

No surprise here. Stephane Aziz Ki, the Ivorian maestro from Yanga SC, has been on Kaizer Chiefs’ radar since last year, and Nabi knows the player intimately. The two worked together at Yanga, where Aziz Ki was the heartbeat of the midfield, orchestrating attacks and controlling the tempo with class.

“Aziz Ki brings control, intelligence, and composure. He understands Nabi’s system and could hit the ground running,” said a source close to the club.

With Nabi expected to bring a possession-based style to Naturena, Aziz Ki fits perfectly into that system. His experience in CAF competitions and leadership qualities also make him a standout candidate to anchor the Chiefs midfield.

Thapelo Maseko – Pace, Directness, and a Local Star on the Rise

Thapelo Maseko has been a bright spark for Mamelodi Sundowns, even in a star-studded squad. His blistering pace, fearless one-on-one ability, and eye for goal have made him one of the most exciting young South African wingers in recent years.

Nabi reportedly sees Maseko as the type of wide player who can stretch defenses, create space, and bring dynamism to a Chiefs attack that’s often lacked sharpness in transition.

“Maseko is a game-changer. He’s young, explosive, and has the kind of energy this Chiefs team needs,” said former Chiefs player Junior Khanye in a recent interview.

Whether Sundowns would let him go to a direct rival remains a question — but if Chiefs are serious, they’ll need to dig deep to make this transfer happen.

Fawaaz Basadien – Stability and Creativity at Left-Back

The inclusion of Fawaaz Basadien, Stellenbosch FC’s left-back, points to Nabi’s desire to strengthen the defensive line while still maintaining attacking width. Basadien is known for his consistency, set-piece delivery, and ability to support the attack without compromising defensive duties.
