Maskandi artist Mthandeni “Igcokama Elisha” Manqele who is a well-known rival of the fellow award-winning artist Khuzani Mpungose has asked his music fans to forgive him.

Igcokama Elisha pleaded with music fans during the celebration, of the success of his song titled Paris which features singer Lwah Ndlunkulu, at his homestead in Nhlwathi in Hluhluwe in the far north of KwaZulu Natal (KZN) yesterday. Thousands of his fans came out to celebrate the success of the Paris, song which broke many records in the maskandi music genre surpassing Khuzani’s Ijele and Shwi noMtekhala ‘s Ngafa song.

Paris is currently on 12 million views on YouTube, and over 3 million streams worldwide which made it to break the record of award-winning group Shwi noMtekhala’s song titled Ngafa. Speaking to his fans, Igcokama Elisha pleaded with his fans to forgive Khuzani for winning the Song of The Year competition on SABC’s Ukhozi FM with his song titled Umjolo Lowo which has over 4 million views on YouTube, when Paris was number 2 despite the numbers saying something else.

BITTER PILL TO SWALLOW

This left a bitter pill to swallow on Igcokama Elisha‘s music lovers as they threw cans at Khuzani during his performance on 31 December at Richards Bay Sports Complex. They even booed him when he was performing during the Gumba Fest Music Festival and insulted Ukhozi FM, accusing him of being biased when it comes to the feud between the two maskandi heavyweights.

“Before I get any further, let me first ask you to forgive maskandi artist, Khuzani. It is wrong to throw cans at him and to boo him. I hereby ask you to forgive him. As a public figure, I have to lead by example. I hope that he will also forgive you.

Khuzani won the Ukhozi FM Song of the Year competition for the second time on 31 December which automatically became the crossover song on Mzansi”s number 1 radio station. Mthandeni’s song became number 2 with over 7 million votes while Khuzani won it with over 9 million votes.

This was the second time for Mthandeni to become number 2 on Ukhozi FM after his Amageja song, which he released in 2020, lost to Khuzani’s Ijele. The beef between the two artists has already seen one person killed in Ladysmith on New Year’s Eve after two friends argued over the Song of the Year winner and one took out a knife and stabbed their friend to death.
