♌ – Nasreddine Nabi at Kaizer Chiefs

Nasreddine Nabi reveals Amakhosi’s main problem amid a poor run of results – ‘Kaizer Chiefs complicate the game for themselves because we lose the opportunities to score’

Nabi says a local coach on chiefs' technical panel would have made no difference to result

The Tunisian tactician reveals how the Soweto giants are complicating their situation but calls for patience.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Nasreddine Nabi has discussed what he thinks is Kaizer Chiefs’ major undoing amid a poor run of results in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The former Young Africans mentor has said what is affecting his club the most are the goal-scoring chances that go to waste.

In their last outing, Amakhosi could have avoided a defeat to Golden Arrows, especially with Yusuf Maart and Dillan Solomons wasting glorious opportunities. The Soweto giants, in the end, fell to a 2-1 loss.

Nabi says he is not worried about how the team is playing, but his major concern is the chances that go unconverted.

“It’s a problem for the team; I think we need patience with the players. We need patience, not panic,” Nabi explained as per KickOff.

“If you understand football, there are some negative points, but I think the team is complete in some points, and these negative points are only in the last decision. Solomons is not a winger, and he is not a striker; he is a right-back. The problem is not Solomons.

“If you look at the game against Arrows and the game we lost against Richards Bay, it’s the same profile. This is the problem.

“I take responsibility; I don’t give the responsibility away, but to change the situation, we need two things. The first is patience. We need patience. Secondly, we need more players with the engine,” the former Young Africans SC head coach continued.

“In that way, if a player is substituted after 60 or 65 minutes, we possibly have to change position for the position, for example.

“I would be worried if the team played badly in all these games if we don’t play good football. But that is not the situation for Kaizer Chiefs, because Kaizer Chiefs complicate the game for themselves because we lose the opportunities to score,” the 59-year-old added.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The two-back-to-back PSL losses have added more pressure to Nabi and his players. The latest defeat meant they have conceded 10 losses in the league so far.

They are eighth after 23 games and have only collected 29 points. The poor run has only added more spotlight on Nabi’s future at the club, with some experts warning that he will not deliver.

Others want him given more time to turn Amakhosi into a competitive outfit.

WHAT NEXT FOR NABI AND CHIEFS?

For their next PSL match, Chiefs will be at home when they host TS Galaxy on April 5.

This is an opportunity to end the losing streak and return to winning ways.
