The eventual winners of this season’s Caf Champions League will take home $4 million (R75 million).
That number has grown from $2.5 million in 2022.
Orlando Pirates must negotiate a tough second-leg semi-final clash in Egypt against Pyramids after a hard-fought 0-0 draw in the first leg.
If they advance to the final, either Mamelodi Sundowns defending champions Al Ahly await them.
Evidence Makgopa might be considering his options
Although Makgopa’s industry, relentless pressing and work ethic see him start the occasional big game or cup finals, Tshegofatso Mabasa has become the first-choice striker in league games.
Makgopa started both of Pirates’ Caf Champions League quarter-final clashes with MC Alger, but was on the bench for the semi-final first leg against Pyramids.
He’d love to be more involved in the bread and butter of the Betway Premiership; 24-year-old Makgopa has appeared 17 times in the league but mostly as a substitute.
Soweto Derby Double-Header looming
As fate would have it, Pirates and Chiefs meet twice in quick succession at the sharp end of the 2024-2025 campaign.
First, they do battle in the Betway Premiership on Saturday, 03 May at 15:00.
Then, they meet in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, 10 May.
Mfundo Vilakazi will not be available for the Glamour Boys as he’ll be on Afcon U20 duty.
Bucs defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi is also part of the U20 Afcon group, but Pirates are keen to withdraw him to have the teenager available for the clashes against Chiefs.
