Not just Floyd Shivambu: South Africans want Rebecca Malope to be ‘cancelled’ after she allegedly visited fugitive Prophet Bushiri.
After having his name trend on social media for hosting MK Party secretary general Floyd Shivambu at his church, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has thrown another South African under the bus – gospel singer, Rebecca Malope.
The controversial preacher has courted controversy for fleeing to his home country in Malawi, amid an extradition bid to South Africa. This is amid rape, fraud and money laundering charges following his arrest in 2020.
BUSHIRI POSTS CLIP OF REBECCA MALOPE
On his X platform, Shepherd Bushiri posted a clip of gospel veteran Rebecca Malope. The criminally accused prophet suggested that she had visited his Easter weekend service at his Enlightened Christian Gathering Church in Lilongwe, Malawi.
In the clip, the singer and the controversial prophet were seen singing and dancing on stage.
“Let love lead”, he captioned the clip.
In the comments section, South Africans expressed their anger and disappointment at seeing Malope support fugitive, Bushiri.
X user @Kane_GM9 posted: “Rebecca Malope must also be canceled for going to Malawi”, while @cj_sentlee added: “Boycott Rebecca”.
Another – @Mickzo added: “Rebecca Malope is enough proof to show you what is wrong with the Gospel music industry”
Malope has not responded to the controversy as yet.
FLOYD SHIVAMBU’S VISIT COURTS CONTROVERSY
Meanwhile, Floyd Shivambu’s visit to Malawi to visit Prophet Bushiri has been condemned by many South Africans, including his own political party.
In a press release, MK Party distanced itself from the secretary general’s visit. In it, the party claimed that Shivambu’s visit was “not sanctioned, endorsed, or initiated by the leadership or any official structure of the party”.
It added: “The secretary general undertook this visit in his personal capacity and without the mandate or knowledge of the party. The MKP upholds the rule of law and maintains a zero-tolerance stance on criminality in all its forms.”
“We remain firmly opposed to any association with individuals who are fugitives from justice. Our values are rooted in integrity, justice, and accountability. We reject any actions that compromise the reputation and ethical standing of our movement.
