Saleng Update: Preparing For Egypt.

The Siya crew has been informed that Orlando Pirates attacker Monnapule Saleng is believed to be reporting for camp for Bafana Bafana’s CHAN
qualier against Egypt, despite the controversy surrounding the player.

Saleng was named in Helman Mkhalele’s squad for the CHAN qualier against Egypt over two legs.

As things stand, the players are reporting for camp in dribs and drabs and they will travel to Bloemfontein on Wednesday to prepare for the match set to be played at Free State Stadium on Friday, with the second leg set to be played on March 9.

The former Free State Stars player has been in limbo at Pirates, with various reports claiming that he and his club are at loggerheads over issues that are related to his contract and offers from clubs interested in his services.

The Buccaneers are believed to have exercised an option on the player’s contract and anyone wanting to sign him would have to come up with an offer the Buccaneers cannot refuse.

Saleng has not played competitive football since December 2024, when he played 90 minutes in a CAF Champions League group stage match against Egyptian giants Al Ahly, a club he has been linked to.

Being in the South Africa squad will give him an opportunity to impress Mkhalele and possibly get valuable minutes on the pitch been regulars at club level, so this will be a big test for them in proving that they can get the job done even though they have not had a lot of competitive action.
