Well-known comedian Ebenhaezer Dibakwane has died at the age of 31.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of celebrated comedian, actor and writer Ebenhaezer Dibakwane. A friend to so many, he will be remembered for his off-the-wall humour, original style of stand-up comedy,” the pickledginger entertainment agency said in a statement.

Ebenhaezer was known for his acting roles in Divorced at 50, Real Estate Sisters and Miseducation. 

He made his television acting debut when he guest starred as a film crew director in the e.tv soapie Ashes to Ashes in 2015. The following year he was a presenter on the SABC1 show Walala Wasala.

His stand-up comedy highlights included opening for award-winning comedian Dillan Oliphant at his first one-man show, Oliphant in the Room; being part of the Stand Up 4 Comedy ensemble alongside Gavin Kelly, Virgil Prins and Mo Mothebe, being billed as part of the line-up of the Comedy Central International Comedy Festival alongside Trevor Noah, Aries Spears, Jeff Ross, Hannibal Buress, Marc Lottering, Basketmouth, Carl Joshua Ncube, Eugene Khoza, Tats Nkonzo and many others.

Award-winning comedian and actor Ebenhaezer Dibakwane has died, his manager, Tabitha Hoy, confirmed to News24.

The 31-year-old died on Friday. His cause of death was yet to be disclosed.

“A friend to many, he will be remembered for his off-the-wall humour, original style of stand-up comedy, and the joy he brought to audiences across South Africa,” a press statement shared by Hoy read.

“To know Ebenhaezer was to love him, and he’ll be sorely missed.”

The statement continued to say that the Dibakwane family appreciated the support it had received, adding that details about the memorial and funeral service would be communicated in due course.

Born in 1994, Dikbakwane began to make waves in the entertainment space in 2016 when he won the Savanna Comics’ Choice Award in the Newcomer of the Year category.

After that, he received a second Comics’ Choice Award in the Intermediate category the following year. In 2018, he received another nomination in the Breakthrough Comedian of the Year category.

Dibakwane’s other notable achievements include another a nomination for his writing work at the South African Film and TV Awards.

In addition to this, the comedian, actor and writer also appeared in Catching Feelings,MTV Shuga Downsouth, and Dancing with the Stars South Africa.
