Elon Musk reignites criticism of Julius Malema over ‘Kill the Boer’ song

Elon Musk has once again aimed at Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema, condemning his performance of the Apartheid-era struggle song Kill the Boer.

The billionaire entrepreneur, who was born in Pretoria, has accused Malema of “promoting white genocide.”

Malema’s Human Rights Day rally sparks controversy

On Friday, 21 March—Human Rights Day in South Africa—Malema led an EFF rally at Dlomo Dam in Sharpeville, where he commemorated those killed during the Sharpeville Massacre of 1960.

However, his speech and subsequent performance of Dubula Ibhunu (Kill the Boer) reignited criticism, particularly from Musk.

During his address, Malema took aim at both Musk and former US President Donald Trump, rejecting claims that South Africa’s policies discriminate against white citizens.

He also dismissed opposition to the recent Expropriation Bill, which allows the state to seize land without compensation.

“We must not be intimidated by Elon Musk and everybody who stands with him. All those who are offered an opportunity to go to America because there is a genocide against them you are free to go.

We have no home for racists in South Africa,” Malema said.

Musk calls out ‘white genocide’ claims

Malema’s performance of Kill the Boer drew backlash from various quarters, including Musk, who expressed his disapproval on X (formerly Twitter).

“Very few people know that there is a major political party in South Africa that is actively promoting white genocide… A whole arena chanting about killing white people,” Musk posted.

He also questioned the lack of global media coverage on the matter.

“Where is the outrage? Why is there no coverage by the legacy media?”

Additionally, Musk linked his criticism to business interests, citing South Africa’s rejection of Starlink, his satellite internet service.

“Starlink can’t get a license to operate in South Africa simply because I’m not black. How is that right?” he added.

Renewed tensions between Musk and Malema

This is not the first time Musk and Malema have clashed over racial and political issues in South Africa. The ongoing debate over land reform, racial tensions, and free speech continues to fuel their public feud.

With Musk’s global influence and Malema’s vocal stance on transformation policies, their confrontation is unlikely to end anytime soon.
