ManB vs. Somizi: Who’s to Blame for the East London Birthday Event Disaster?
Somizi Mhlongo and ManB’s East London event sparks controversy as Somizi refuses to perform, citing poor event management.

A weekend that was supposed to be filled with celebration quickly turned into controversy after Somizi Mhlongo’s highly anticipated appearance at ManB’s birthday event in East London ended in unexpected drama.

The popular media personality and entertainer was booked to host the event, but instead of delivering his usual electrifying performance, he greeted the crowd briefly and left—leaving fans and organizers in confusion.

ManB, the event’s host and birthday celebrant, expressed his disappointment, stating that Somizi did not fulfill his role at the event without providing clear reasons.

However, Somizi later took to social media to explain his side of the story, shedding light on a series of logistical failures by the event organizers.

During his Instagram Live session, Somizi detailed several issues he encountered from the moment he landed in East London:

No Airport Pickup – Upon arrival, Somizi and his manager were not met by any event representatives. Left stranded, they had to use their own money to book an Uber to their hotel.
Unpaid Accommodation – When they reached the hotel, they discovered that their rooms had not been paid for. Somizi ended up covering the cost out of his pocket.
Unprofessional Scheduling – The event organizers initially told Somizi the show would end at 6 PM, only for him to be slotted for a performance at 6 AM the next morning—an arrangement he found highly unprofessional.
Marketing Fee Dispute – Organizers reportedly expected Somizi to promote the event on his social media platforms for free, despite marketing usually being a paid service for celebrities of his caliber.
Canceled Return Flight – To make matters worse, Somizi claimed that his return flight had been canceled, leaving him without proper travel arrangements.
Poor Event Setup – Somizi also pointed out that the stage setup was substandard, describing it as nothing more than “a dining table.”

Given these circumstances, Somizi felt justified in stepping back from the event.

While Somizi blamed poor planning by the organizers, ManB had his own version of events.

He accused Somizi of deliberately misleading his fans by directing them to another club instead of attending the event he was booked for.

According to ManB, instead of performing at his birthday event, Somizi allegedly posted on social media, calling on his East London fans to meet him at a different club—essentially diverting attendees from the venue where he was originally scheduled to perform.

This claim has only intensified the debate over who was really at fault in this situation.

As expected, the internet exploded with debates over who was in the wrong. Some people sympathized with Somizi, arguing that no professional should have to deal with such disorganization.

Others, however, felt he should have at least attempted to perform for the fans who paid to see him—or at the very least, not redirected them elsewhere.

💬 Instagram user @MandlaM“Honestly, no artist should be treated like this. Imagine arriving at an event, and nothing is in place? Somizi was right to leave!”
💬 Facebook user @ThandoDlamini“ManB and his team should have planned better! You can’t expect a star like Somizi to sleep at the airport.”
💬 Twitter user @ZamaSA“People paid to see you! Even if they messed up, just perform for your fans and let them deal with the organizers later.”
💬 TikTok user @SbuLive“Wait, so Somizi left the event but called fans to another club instead? That’s shady!”

💬 Instagram user @Mfundo_Sodela: ” Ndimcelela uxolo uMan B. I think he was failed by his orginisers.

Kaloku what you must know about many EC Event organisers is that they approach each event with a mindset of “Orginising a Municipality event” in which case they are always looking for ways to get kickbacks.

I would not be surprised nangoku that they were using physical cash to pay for things hence he wanted to be physically there to get things done. Again, for some people keeping time and sticking to agreements is optional.

I think Man B was fed inaccurate information and He did not take time to investigate. Lastly; I think Man B also overcommitted himself on this event.

I think he could have started very small (Organise an event at a popular spot e.g KwaJeff) and grow from there. May this not appear as an Eastern Cape standard but a Man B standard. There are still people who are able to organise Great Events.

The drama has left fans debating—was Somizi justified in leaving, or should he have stayed and performed despite the mishaps? And did he really mislead his fans by directing them elsewhere? Drop your thoughts in the comments! 🚨🔥
