Oros Mampofu says goodbye to ‘ Gqeberha: The Empire’ and the way forward.

As the famous Mzansi Magic drama “Gqeberha: The Empire” nears its last episodes, actor Oros Mampofu has said goodbye with respect.

Oros, who joined the show in its second season, has played the character of Ntando Mxenge, taking over from Phila Madlingozi. Even though a chapter is coming to a close, Oros looks back on his time on the show with pride and appreciation in his heart.

“It’s always an honour. We have so much respect for the Eastern Cape story, especially for those of us who grew up there. Being Xhosa, it’s a privilege to be part of a narrative that resonates with so many people in the country,” Oros shared in an interview with Daily Sun.

“At this point, it’s a mix of pride and gratitude,” he says, acknowledging the emotional rollercoaster that comes with finishing a project. Even saying goodbye to a production is never easy, but it’s a necessary aspect of our work. It is our responsibility to tell the tale, to portray it truthfully, and to allow it to fulfil its intended purpose for the audience it affects.”

Many people have found great resonance in Oros’s portrayal of Ntando, especially those who have ties to the Eastern Cape. “This performance is special because it appeals to Eastern Cape residents and has its roots in Xhosa culture. For people who may have relocated to Johannesburg or another location for work but who still have strong ties to their homeland, it evokes memories,” he said.

Many people choose the show to be their favourite because of its cultural relevance, and it has had a significant impact on viewers. “Gqeberha: The Empire” has not only entertained but has also acted as a platform for presenting the rich culture and tradition of the Eastern Cape, offering a sense of pride and belonging to many viewers.

Oros looks forward to working on new projects, but he will miss the intimate relationships he has developed with the crew and other cast members. Every show has a unique cast and crew, and you become close friends with them. I’ll miss it, he said in conclusion. An era of “Gqeberha: The Empire” has come to an end with Oros’s departure. On the other hand, viewers will be forever changed by his contributions to the series, his devotion to his art, and his desire to accurately portray the Eastern Cape.
