Johannesburg – Popular South African podcaster MacGyver “MacG” Mukwevho has publicly apologized to musician Nkosazana Daughter following her filing of a R13 million defamation lawsuit against him and his podcast team.
The legal action, lodged in the Johannesburg High Court last week, stems from allegations made during a July episode of the podcast.
The lawsuit addresses claims that Nkosazana Daughter was involved in an affair with Master KG, and the paternity of her child was called into question.
The controversy started when the podcast aired statements alleging that Nkosazana Daughter, real name Nkosazanah Nolwazi Kimberly, was romantically involved with fellow musician Master KG, also known as Kgaogelo Moagi, behind the back of her partner, Sir Trill (Tumelo Zwane).
The podcast further suggested that Master KG, not Sir Trill, was the biological father of Nkosazana Daughter’s child.
Court documents reveal that the podcast hosts claimed: “The plaintiff [Nkosazana Daughter] was rumored to have been quarrelling with her partner, one Mr. Tumelo Mzwake Zwane (‘Mr. Zwane’), as a result of her illicit affair with Master KG.
The minor child of the plaintiff was allegedly born from this affair and not her relationship with Zwane.”
Nkosazana Daughter’s legal team strongly refutes these claims, stating that they are not only false but also highly defamatory.
According to the court papers, the statements suggest that the musician is “deceitful, promiscuous, unprincipled, untrustworthy, adulterous, and a liar” — a portrayal that has deeply affected her personal and professional reputation.
The lawsuit argues that these allegations paint Nkosazana Daughter as a woman of loose morals, which has severely damaged her image in the music industry and her community.
Her legal representatives emphasized the seriousness of the impact, stating: “The plaintiff is furthermore, a family lady, living with her partner and having one minor child with him, and who is well respected by her colleagues and his community.”
Initially, Nkosazana Daughter’s legal team reached out to MacG and his co-hosts, demanding a retraction and a public apology. However, these requests went unanswered, prompting the musician to escalate the matter through legal channels.
The lawsuit now seeks not only an apology but also R13 million in damages, along with a formal retraction of the defamatory claims.
The court documents specify the demands: “A retraction from the three podcasters for the defamatory statements. An oral, televised, and written apology issued by the first and/or second and/or third defendant to the plaintiff. Payment by the defendants, whether jointly or severally, of the sum of R13 million.”
Despite the ongoing legal battle, MacG recently issued a public apology during one of his podcast episodes. He acknowledged that the child in question bears a strong resemblance to Sir Trill, contradicting the earlier claims made on the show.
“We were wrong; she [the child] looks just like Sir Trill. So, I want to apologize to Nkosazana Daughter,” MacG stated.
However, MacG was quick to clarify that his apology was not solely prompted by the lawsuit but by a realization of the error. “Now it seems like I am saying sorry because of the lawsuit, and it is not. But allegedly, Sir Trill is not supporting the kid, and it is from a credible source,” he added.
Sol Phenduka, MacG’s co-host, also commented on the situation, explaining that he heard the rumors from friends and did not expect MacG to bring the topic to the podcast.
While the apology comes after legal proceedings have begun, it remains to be seen whether it will affect the outcome of the defamation case.
Nkosazana Daughter has continued to deny any romantic relationship with Master KG, maintaining that they are merely collaborators in the music industry.
