Orlando Pirates supporters remain in suspense over the future of Monnapule Saleng, as the winger has continued to be a notable absentee from their line-ups.
Despite his recent appearance for the Bafana Bafana CHAN team, Saleng’s situation at club level remains uncertain.
The winger has yet to return to training with the Buccaneers’ first team, according to close sources.
Saleng made a surprise appearance for South Africa in the first leg of the African Nations Championship qualifiers against Egypt in Bloemfontein a week ago.
However, he was absent for the return fixture in Ismailia, fuelling speculation about his status.
Following the match in Bloemfontein, Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki confirmed that Saleng was released from camp as part of the squad’s changes.
Other players, including Pirates’ Azola Tshobeni, were also sent back to their respective clubs.
Despite his influential performance in the first leg, no clear explanation was given for Saleng’s omission from the return fixture, adding to the mystery surrounding his current situation.
Saleng has not featured for Pirates since December 7, when he played the full 90 minutes in a goalless draw against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League at Orlando Stadium.
Since then, the 26-year-old has been missing from the squad, with rumours suggesting a potential failed overseas move and contractual disputes with the club as possible reasons.
With Pirates preparing for a crucial final stretch of the season, fans have been eager to see whether Saleng would re-join training after his Bafana release.
However, sources indicate that the winger has yet to report back to training with the first team.
“No (he is not training with the first team). The guy is dealing with personal issues, as far as I know, and that’s all I can say,” said the source.

Whether Saleng’s prolonged absence is due to off-field matters, fitness concerns, or unresolved contract negotiations, it remains to be seen when – or if – he will make a return to the team.
For now, Pirates fans can only wait and hope for clarity on one of their star attackers as the club navigates a crucial part of the season.
