IT’S A DONE DEAL: Kaizer Chiefs Secure Big Signing & Stir Debate Over Veteran Addition
Kaizer Chiefs have completed another significant signing by securing Tabisani Munyani from Orlando Pirates following the expiry of his contract.
The 25-year-old wing-back, who joined Pirates’ academy at age 12 and spent 13 years with the Buccaneers, is embarking on a fresh challenge with their Soweto rivals.
Last week, SABC Sports broke the news that Chiefs were given the opportunity to sign Munyani, and it has now been confirmed that a deal has been reached.
Munyani took to social media to bid an emotional farewell to Pirates, expressing gratitude for his growth as both player and person during his time at the club.

“Joining the institution at 12 to 25, this club has been my everything.
I’ve grown as a player but more importantly as a person.
I’m grateful for the trophies we’ve won, the memories created, and friendships that will last a lifetime,” Munyani wrote.
He thanked fans for their unwavering support and the club’s staff, technical team, and players for shaping him into the professional he is today.
As he embarks on this new journey with Chiefs, Munyani promises to carry the lessons and values learned at Pirates with him.

In addition to Munyani’s arrival, Chiefs are reportedly considering other players to bolster the squad.
Former Chiefs winger Junior Khanye recently commented on the potential signing of Sipho Boule, a talented but troubled young player released by Mamelodi Sundowns.
Boule, who spent last season on loan at Sekhukhune United, featured in 16 matches and scored two league goals but was recalled early due to misconduct allegations.
His agent has offered Boule’s services to Chiefs, leaving the final decision to the club.
Khanye, who has overcome his own career challenges, believes Boule has the ability to play for both Chiefs and Pirates if given the right environment.

He emphasized that Chiefs would need to sign several complementary top-class players to support Boule’s style and maximize his potential.
“Chiefs and Pirates are the two best teams after Sundowns.
At Chiefs, the problem is coaching philosophy and the surrounding players.
If they sign Boule, they must also bring in seven or eight players to complement him,” Khanye said.
Meanwhile, controversy surrounds the signing of veteran left-back Basea Maru from Orlando Pirates.

Maru, 30, has agreed to a three-year contract with Chiefs, aiming to strengthen a position that has often troubled the club.
However, former Pirates left-back Innocent Chikoya expressed doubts about Maru’s fit for Chiefs, citing his inconsistent contributions last season and advanced age as concerns.
Chikoya pointed out that Chiefs are under pressure to dethrone dominant teams like Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates, who are signing younger players with longer potential careers.
“Basea’s contribution has been low, and at 31, if he hasn’t been playing regularly, it’s tough to make an impact at Chiefs now.
Sundowns are bringing in 24-year-olds with many years ahead.
Chiefs need to do the same if they want to compete at the top,” Chikoya told Kickoff.

He argued that signing an older player like Maru might make more sense for a club where he can play regularly until retirement rather than a team with high ambitions to reclaim the league title.
Chiefs’ fans are divided on this issue.
Some welcome Maru’s experience and leadership, hoping it will stabilize the defense, while others agree with Chikoya that Chiefs should focus on younger talent to build a sustainable challenge.
As the transfer window continues, Chiefs face important decisions balancing experience and youth in their squad rebuild.
The addition of Munyani brings youthful energy and familiarity with the local game, while the debate over Maru highlights the challenges of squad composition at a top club.

With the new season fast approaching, Chiefs must finalize their roster to mount a serious challenge domestically and continentally.
Fans remain hopeful that these signings, coupled with tactical improvements, will lift the club back to the pinnacle of South African football.
