At number 10, we have Zimbabwe-born DJ, YouGotZim. The DJ, whose real name is Zandi Lee, blew up after the success of her hit song “Emma Turned Wani” featuring Noxy. She has become a force to be reckoned with ever since, and if she keeps up the consistency, she has a very long career ahead of her.
Number nine is Miss Cosmo. Miss Cosmo is perhaps one of the best hip-hop DJs in the country. She gained mainstream popularity for her captivating mixes on the Channel O program “Basement.” In 2013, she won a South African Hip-Hop Award for the Best Hip-Hop Radio Show. She has also released a couple of hit songs, including “Connect” which features AKA and QuesT.
Number eight is DJ Lamez. DJ Lamez began her career as an underground DJ way back in 2010, and years later, it finally paid off. DJ Lamez was a presenter on the popular SABC1 music show “Live AMP” from 2017 until it was cancelled in 2021.
The DJ, whose tattoos make her mystically heart, is also the wife of legendary Motswako rapper Kuli Chana. In 2021, DJ Lamez was nominated for the Best Amapiano Female DJ Act category at the South African Amapiano Awards.
Number seven is Deebo Gogo. Deebo Gogo is the niece of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and South Africa’s richest black man, Patrice Motsepe. However, don’t let this fool you into thinking that she’s popular just because of her connections.
Deebo Gogo is one of the most talented female DJs and she has taken the South African music industry by storm. The DJ is ranked number two in Africa and has released multiple chart-topping Amapiano hit songs, including “Kuza Gogo” and “Bellows.”
Number six is Owami Mofokaje. Owami is definitely one of the rising female DJs to look out for. She’s the daughter of legendary creator and artist Arthur Mofokaje, and at only 20 years old, she’s already proving she inherited the music genes from her father.
She started making a name for herself at the mere age of 16 years old as a DJ on the SABC1 kids show “Yo TV.” In 2021, she won the award for the Best Female Amapiano DJ at the SA Amapiano Awards.
Number five is DJ Zinhle. DJ Zinhle is arguably one of the best female DJs on the African continent and ultimately in South Africa. She’s also one of the most successful women in the South African entertainment industry, with numerous awards and successful business ventures to her name. DJ Zinhle is a role model and inspiration to a majority of South African women.
Number four is Taryn Clay. Having one beautiful lady as a DJ at an event can be quite fascinating. Now, imagine two of them. That’s exactly what Taryn and Claire offer. A combination of good looks, good music, and good dance moves have put them on the map as the hardest female DJ duo in South Africa.
Number three is Tulip Pongolo. If this list was based on talent alone, Tulip might not even have made it to this list, but it’s about the hottest DJs, and Tulip is definitely hot.
She gained national fame as an extra on SABC1’s “Generations: The Legacy,” but apparently, her first love was music. She started exploring her career as a DJ in 2017 and now she’s a professional DJ, getting nationwide bookings to perform at various events.
Number two is Lerato Kganyago. Lerato is a household name in the South African entertainment scene. She was ranked number three on the list for the best female DJs in Africa, after DJ Zinhle and Deebo Gogo. Besides being a DJ, Lerato is also an award-winning television presenter, actress, model, and businesswoman.
And at number one, we have Angie Waffles. There’s no doubt that 2022 belongs to DJ Waffles. At only 23 years old, Angie Waffles has been slowly gaining worldwide recognition, even catching the attention of the biggest artist in the world, Drake.
Angie Waffles was thrilled after she got followed by Drake in 2021, and fast forward a few months later, Drake went on to give the DJ a shout-out on his stories. However, there have been numerous arguments on social media that she’s not really a good DJ but she’s just a good dancer.
But you can’t deny that she always keeps the crowd entertained. She might not be the most talented DJ on this list, but as of 2022, she’s arguably the hottest DJ, and that’s what this list is about.
