Privacy Policy (Draft)

A plain-language draft of how this site handles information.

This is a draft and needs legal review before launch. It is written in plain language to describe how the site currently works. It should not be treated as a final or legally reviewed policy.

The short version

South Today is a static website. There are no accounts, no logins and no payments. We do not claim to run analytics, and we do not knowingly collect personal information on our own servers.

What is stored in your browser

The site uses localStorage, a feature of your browser, to remember a few things on your device only:

  • Stories you have saved.
  • Your theme preference, such as light or dark.
  • A newsletter address, if you type one into the signup form.

This information stays in your browser. It is not sent to us. You can remove it by clearing your site data in your browser settings. Because the newsletters are not yet connected to a mailing list, an address you enter is not used to email you.

Third-party requests

To display the site, your browser loads some resources from third parties. These include fonts from Google Fonts and styling from the Tailwind CDN. When your browser makes those requests, the providers may receive technical information such as your IP address and browser details. Their own policies govern what they do with it, and we do not control that.

Email addresses on the site are plain text, or mailto links that open your own email program. If you write to us, we will receive your address and whatever you include. We will use it to respond and for nothing else. We do not promise a response time.

Changes and contact

We will update this policy before we connect a mailing list, add analytics or change how information is handled. Questions about privacy can go to [email protected]. Because this is a draft, readers should not rely on it as a legal statement until it has been reviewed.
