South Today has two newsletters in the works. Neither is sending yet, and there is no archive, because there are no issues to archive. This page explains what is planned and what happens if you enter your address.

The planned newsletters

• The Sunroom Five. Five short dispatches each weekday morning: a dish, a sound, a place, an object and a thought from across the South.
• The Morning Sun Dispatch. A weekday-morning round-up of the day's stories from our seven city desks.

These descriptions are plans, not promises of format or timing. We have not set a launch date.

The archive

An archive of past issues will live here once newsletters have been sent. At present it is empty. We would rather say so than fill it with sample issues that look real.

Signing up

The signup form on this site does not connect to a mailing list. When you enter an address, it is stored only in your own browser, in a feature called localStorage. It is not sent to us, to a mailing service or to anyone else. That means we cannot email you, and no one else can see it. Clearing your browser data will remove it.

When a real list is connected, we will say so on this page and update our privacy policy before collecting anything. You will be asked again, and nothing you entered earlier will be sent without your confirmation.

Other ways to follow along

You can use the RSS feeds listed on the feeds page, save stories in your browser, or write to [email protected] if you want a personal note when the newsletters begin. We do not promise response times, but we will keep a note of requests. Our privacy policy page explains in more detail what the site stores and why.

Our intentions for the newsletters

When the newsletters begin, we hope each one will be short, readable in a few minutes and easy to leave. Every issue would include a clear way to unsubscribe. We would not share your address with advertisers, and we would not sell it. These are intentions rather than guarantees, and we will confirm the details here before the first issue is sent.
